KIZUKI + LIM by Isolation Unit
KIZUKI, the latest branch of the rapidly growing japanese company Less is More is located in the prestigious Raffles Hotel in the center of Singapore.
The very contemporary setting, merged into the large, history-charged space, reflects the spirit of the young japanese stylists, who came to tropically hot Singapore with their ‘cool’ styles and ideas.
A ‘glacier’-like structure dominates the space and separates it into reception, cutting and shampooing area. In the cutting area, large pivotable wings with mirrors fold out of the wall.
When they are closed flush into the wall, the room becomes a spacious location for events and concerts. The timbered reception ‘hut’, includes a small gallery space that works as a platform for local artist.Japanese studio Isolation Unit.

LINK lighting
Like the skyline of a great city… The modules of the Link lighting system allow you to create silhouettes and volumes on the ceiling to suit every room and every location. Link consists of four modules in different sizes and heights, which connect to one another, to offer a wide range of geometries perfectly fitting into the architecture of the ceiling. They only require one electrical connection and their light source is dimmable and efficient.
The modules of the Link lighting system connect to one another on any of their four sides, requiring at least 14 cm of overlapping surface area. All the shapes are electrically connected to each other, so that a single electrical connection on the ceiling is enough for up to 25 modules.
Designed by Ramón Esteve, Link makes it possible to exploit the path of the light as it passes through the different angles in each module to create highly pleasant indirect ambient lighting, with an effect similar to that of natural light, as if the sun’s rays were shining into the room through the different volumes of the fitting.LINK lighting by Ramón Esteve for VIBIA

'digital decay' by zachary eastwood-bloom
london based designer and recent royal college of art graduate zachary eastwood-bloom has created 'digital decay'.
the collection explores the theme of two different universes that equally follow the laws of physics: one material,
with mass and volume and the other a mathematical construct assembled from binary information.
stemming from experimentation with digital terrain generation software, the surface and form unite to analyze
the relationship between the real and the virtual and the digital and the handmade. 'digital decay' by zachary eastwood-bloom

Slow Sofa
In the context of the Passages during the IMM Cologne 2011, January 17 to 23, Frederik Roijé presents his latest design Slow Sofa at Galerie Fiebach & Minninger. The Slow Sofa is a collaboration of two pieces of furniture and materials in one object.
Slow as a durable starting principle in the design of interior products in order to continuously produce new creations. Within the food culture slow is already more developed. Fascinated by this belief the Slow Sofa is designed.
The Slow Sofa is a family of nine elements that can be applied in many compositions at various locations. An intelligent design for a new period in time.
Manufactured with local industries and craftspeople, with as many as possible natural never-ending and recyclable resources.Slow Sofa

23.2 House by Omer Arbel
Designed by Omer Arbel, 23.2 is a house for a family built on a large rural acreage outside Vancouver in the West Coast of Canada. There is a gentle slope from east to west and two masses of old growth forest defining two “outdoor rooms” each with a its own distinct ecology and conditions of light; the house is situated at the point of maximum tension in between these two environments, and as such acts at once to define the two as distinct, and also to offer a focused transition between them.
The design of the house itself began, as a point of departure, with a depository of one hundred year old Douglas Fir beams reclaimed from a series of burned down ware- houses. The beams were of different lengths and cross sectional dimensions, and had astonishing proportions – some as long as 20 meters, some as deep as 90 cm. It was agreed that the beams were sacred artefacts in their current state and that they would not manipulate them or finish them in any way.
Because the beams were of different lengths and sizes, the architect needed to com- mit to a geometry that would be able to accommodate the tremendous variety in di- mension, while still allowing the possibility of narrating legible spaces. He settled on a triangular geometry.
He folded wood triangular frames made of the reclaimed beams to create roof which would act as a secondary (and habitable) landscape, drapping this artificial landscape over the gentle slope of the site. Folds were manipulated to create implicit and explic- it relationships between indoor and outdoor space, such that every interior room had a corresponding exterior room.
To maximize ambiguity between interior and exterior space, he removed definition of one significant corner of each room by pulling the structure back from the corner it- self, using bent steel columns. Also large accordion door systems were introduced in these open corners so that the entire façade on both sides of each significant corner could retract and completely disappear.
