Tux Droid

Tux Droid

Are you a fan of Nabaztag, the wi-fi robot rabbit who interacts with you and alerts you of various online events, but have been holding out for a more... open source type of device? Well today is your lucky day because the Tux Droid is in town and he's ready to kick some cute robotic bunny ass. Basically the Tux Droid is an open source version of the Nabaztag with no subscription fees and completely customizable software. Obviously Linux is required and Tux plugs into your computer via a wireless USB link that coincidentally looks like a small fish. With the included software you can have Tux monitor any number of different events and have him react with different lights, sounds and movements to let you know what's going on. From dancing for e-mail alerts, acting as a remote control for your PC and even doubling as a wireless VOIP phone Tux does your bidding. But of course the real fun begins when you code your own applications for the Tux Droid. A plethora of interesting inputs and outputs are available for your programmatic pleasure. Tux can blink his eyes, light-up his eyes, swivel on his base, flap his wings, talk... and he can also hear, tell how dark it is, sense a push on his head, a push on either wing and accept commands from the included IR remote. It's everything you could want in a automatic wireless penguin based companion.
